ART NEWS LETTER 3rd-8th Grade
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Art class! I would like to emphasize how important Art is to your education. Not only will you learn new techniques and use different media, you will develop your thinking skills, make many choices and decisions, promote responsibility, explore your creativity and produce something that you would be proud of.
Grades are based on effort, attitude, and willingness to learn and to apply what you have learned, behavior and completion of each assignment in a timely manner. We will be using a Rubric system for each assignment. There will be a point system for each of 5 categories - A) Developing Skills at Grade Level B) Understanding and Application of Art Concepts C) Participation D) Use of Materials E) Behavior. Each student will be required to keep this Rubric in their Art folder. Please, click on Art Grading Rubric for more information. Also, please always check comments on Gradelink.
Classes are held weekly for 45 minutes. Students must be prepared and ready to start class on time. *** All Art supplies must be kept up to date and replenished as needed throughout the year. This is extremely important because it takes time out of class to continually address this issue. Borrowing from each other is not the answer and classroom supplies rarely last to the end of the first quarter.
For two week assignments, projects will remain in the Art classroom. Occasionally, students will be allowed to work on assignments in their homerooms. After the second lesson, students must be responsible and take assignments home to finish them. They will be due by the following class.
Students must have an Art folder to place their unfinished assignments in. These folders will be stored on a special shelf in the Art room. If this gets lost, please replace.
***I encourage you to please check Gradelink periodically, not only for assignments and grades, but also for important comments.
All graded projects must be taken home and not thrown away at school. Parents, please ask to see them.
Though all Art work is displayed in the hallways, some projects will be chosen, on merit alone, to be displayed on the "Excellent Artists" board. Some of these will also be chosen to represent Holy Infant School in the Archdiocese Art Exhibit in January. All "Excellent Artists" art work will be kept and then displayed at Holy Infant's Fine Arts Night in May, and then returned to the students.
***It is imperative to realize that Art is an important class, as this grade is included on your report card and will be viewed by potential high schools. As I always say, "ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST!" If I can help you in any way, please contact me at school.
Thank you for your help and cooperation. Have a fun and creative year!
